Aeon Community Rules

Jobs and businesses are a core part of the Aeon Roleplay experience. Whether you work for a government department or operate a player-owned business, your role should create opportunities for immersive, enjoyable, and meaningful roleplay.

"Great employees don't just complete tasksโ€”they create memorable roleplay."

Employment exists to create meaningful roleplay opportunitiesโ€”not simply provide income or gameplay advantages.

๐Ÿ’ผ Professional Expectations โ€‹

Why this rule exists โ€‹

Every job contributes to the overall quality of roleplay within the community. Professionalism, reliability, and cooperation create enjoyable experiences for coworkers, customers, and everyone involved.

Official Policy โ€‹

Players are expected to:

  • Perform their role in a believable manner.
  • Treat coworkers and customers respectfully.
  • Create opportunities for roleplay.
  • Avoid using employment solely for personal gain.
  • Perform your duties consistently and in good faith.

Employment should always enhance roleplay rather than bypass it.

Examples โ€‹

โœ… Providing quality service to customers.

โœ… Working cooperatively with coworkers.

โœ… Assisting newer players or customers when appropriate.

โŒ Ignoring players who are attempting to roleplay.

โŒ Remaining employed solely to access job-related benefits without participating.

โŒ Refusing to perform your role while remaining on duty.

Important

Professionalism โ€‹

Employment is a roleplay opportunityโ€”not simply a source of income or exclusive benefits.

Whether you work for the government or a player-owned business, your goal should always be to create enjoyable interactions for coworkers, customers, and the wider community.

A great employee contributes to the storyโ€”not just the paycheck.

Being employed carries the responsibility of contributing to the roleplay experience of othersโ€”not simply advancing your own character.

๐Ÿ› Government Employment โ€‹

Why this rule exists โ€‹

Government departments play a vital role in shaping the daily roleplay experience throughout Aeon. Professional conduct helps maintain fairness, consistency, public trust, and enjoyable roleplay for everyone.

Official Policy โ€‹

Employees serving within government departments are expected to:

  • Follow department policies and procedures.
  • Respect the established chain of command.
  • Maintain professionalism while on duty.
  • Represent their department appropriately during roleplay.
  • Government employees are expected to remember that their actions reflect not only on themselves, but on their department and the community as a whole.
  • Exercise good judgment and avoid abusing departmental authority or resources.

Department-specific procedures are governed by internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and may change independently of this handbook.

Examples โ€‹

โœ… Following department SOPs during daily duties.

โœ… Remaining professional during interactions with civilians.

โœ… Working cooperatively with other departments when appropriate.

โŒ Ignoring department procedures.

โŒ Using a government position solely for personal advantage.

โŒ Using official authority for personal disputes or revenge.

Important

Government Employment โ€‹

Government positions are built on professionalism, accountability, and public trust.

Authority should always be exercised fairly, responsibly, and in accordance with department policies.

Holding a government position is a responsibilityโ€”not a privilege to gain personal advantages.

๐Ÿข Player-Owned Businesses โ€‹

Why this rule exists โ€‹

Player-owned businesses help bring the city to life by creating unique roleplay opportunities, encouraging social interaction, and giving players meaningful reasons to interact with one another every day.

Official Policy โ€‹

Business owners and employees are expected to:

  • Operate businesses fairly and professionally.
  • Encourage customer interaction.
  • Create welcoming roleplay experiences.
  • Conduct business in good faith.
  • Treat customers, employees, and competitors fairly and respectfully.

Businesses exist to create roleplayโ€”not simply generate income.

Business owners should actively look for opportunities to involve other players and contribute to the ongoing life of the city.

Examples โ€‹

โœ… Hosting events that encourage community participation.

โœ… Creating repeat customers through good roleplay.

โœ… Working with other businesses to create larger roleplay opportunities.

โŒ Refusing roleplay without reasonable justification.

โŒ Operating a business solely to accumulate money.

โŒ Using ownership to exclude or discourage roleplay without legitimate reason.

Important

Player-Owned Businesses โ€‹

A successful business is measured by the roleplay it createsโ€”not the amount of money it earns.

Business owners are encouraged to create welcoming, engaging experiences for customers, employees, and the wider community.

The strongest businesses become community gathering places that players want to return to.

๐Ÿค Customer Interactions โ€‹

Why this rule exists โ€‹

Every interaction between employees and customers is an opportunity to create meaningful roleplay for everyone involved. Positive, engaging service helps strengthen the community and encourages players to return to businesses throughout the city.

Official Policy โ€‹

Employees and customers are expected to treat one another respectfully while participating in roleplay.

Both parties share responsibility for creating a positive and engaging roleplay experience.

Business interactions should:

  • Encourage conversation and roleplay.
  • Remain professional and believable.
  • Allow reasonable time for roleplay to develop.
  • Avoid intentionally disrupting another player's experience.
  • Respect reasonable customer roleplay, even when business cannot be completed.

Not every interaction needs to be lengthy, but every interaction should contribute positively to the roleplay environment.

Examples โ€‹

โœ… Greeting customers and engaging in conversation.

โœ… Working through disagreements through roleplay.

โœ… Remaining respectful even when business cannot be completed.

โŒ Ignoring customers without reason.

โŒ Visiting businesses solely to troll or harass employees.

โŒ Demanding unrealistic service or refusing all roleplay interaction.

Important

Customer Interactions โ€‹

Businesses exist to create enjoyable roleplayโ€”not simply complete transactions.

Whether you are the employee or the customer, your goal should be to leave the interaction more enjoyable than when it began.

Respectful communication and good roleplay help businesses become places players genuinely want to visit.

โš–๏ธ Abuse of Employment โ€‹

Why this rule exists โ€‹

Employment exists to create roleplay opportunitiesโ€”not immunity from roleplay or special treatment. Every position carries responsibilities that should be respected by both the player and the community.

Official Policy โ€‹

Players may not abuse their employment, authority, business ownership, or access to job-specific mechanics to gain unfair advantages or avoid normal roleplay. Any authority granted by a job should always be exercised in good faith and in support of immersive roleplay.

Examples of employment abuse include:

  • Using employment solely for personal financial gain.
  • Exploiting job mechanics or systems.
  • Refusing legitimate roleplay because of your position.
  • Misusing government authority for out-of-character reasons.
  • Using employment to intentionally grief or harass other players.

Staff may intervene whenever employment, authority, or business ownership is being used in bad faith, to gain unfair advantages, or in a manner that negatively impacts the roleplay experience of others.

Examples

โœ… Performing your job fairly and consistently.

โœ… Using your authority to create enjoyable roleplay.

โœ… Treating every player equally regardless of personal relationships.

โŒ Using employment solely for personal financial gain.

โŒ Exploiting job mechanics or internal systems.

โŒ Refusing legitimate roleplay because of your position.

โŒ Misusing government authority for out-of-character reasons.

โŒ Using employment to intentionally grief or harass other players.

Important

Abuse of Employment โ€‹

Jobs and businesses exist to create roleplayโ€”not exclusive advantages.

Holding a position of authority does not exempt you from server rules or realistic roleplay expectations.

If your employment is being used primarily to benefit yourself rather than improve roleplay for others, staff may intervene.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Activity Expectations โ€‹

Why this rule exists โ€‹

Active employees and businesses help keep the city alive. Consistent participation creates opportunities for meaningful roleplay, strengthens the economy, and improves the experience for everyone.

Official Policy โ€‹

Players who choose to maintain employment or operate a business are expected to participate reasonably within that role.

Players who are unable to remain active should communicate with department or business leadership whenever reasonably possible.

Departments and businesses may establish their own internal activity expectations where appropriate.

Extended inactivity may affect employment status based on department or business policies rather than the Community Handbook.

Examples โ€‹

โœ… Remaining reasonably active within your chosen profession.

โœ… Informing leadership if you expect to be inactive for an extended period.

โœ… Returning to active participation after an approved leave of absence.

โŒ Holding a position indefinitely without participating.

โŒ Preventing others from filling an active role while remaining inactive.

Important

Every jobโ€”whether public or privateโ€”exists to create opportunities for roleplay.

Your position should be used to build stories, encourage interactions, and contribute positively to the community.

Professionalism, fairness, and collaboration will always create more memorable roleplay than focusing solely on profits, promotions, or personal advancement.

A healthy workforce keeps the city alive. Whether you're a government employee, business owner, or customer, every interaction is an opportunity to create memorable roleplay.
