🎭 Roleplay Standards

Aeon Community Rules

Roleplay Standards define the expectations for creating immersive, believable, and enjoyable stories within Aeon Roleplay. Every player contributes to the quality of the community by prioritizing realism, cooperation, and memorable storytelling over individual success.

"Great roleplay isn't measured by who winsβ€”it's measured by the stories everyone remembers."

🎭 Serious Roleplay

Why this rule exists

Aeon Roleplay is built around immersive, realistic, and story-driven roleplay. Every player's actions contribute to the overall experience of others, and maintaining believable interactions creates a stronger community for everyone.

Official Policy

Players are expected to portray believable characters, make realistic decisions, and participate in roleplay that contributes positively to the overall story.

While creativity is encouraged, actions should remain grounded within the server's setting and mechanics.

Roleplay should always prioritize immersion, realism, and storytelling over personal gain or "winning."

Examples

βœ… Staying in character during everyday interactions.

βœ… Making decisions your character would realistically make.

βœ… Accepting setbacks when they create better roleplay.

❌ Treating every interaction as a competition to "win."

❌ Making unrealistic decisions solely for personal advantage.

❌ Ignoring established lore or server mechanics for convenience.

Important

Serious Roleplay

Great roleplay isn't about having the strongest character or the biggest success.

It's about creating believable stories that other players enjoy being part of.

Every interaction is an opportunity to contribute to the shared world.

🎬 Storytelling First

Why this rule exists

Roleplay is collaborative storytelling rather than competition.

Every interaction should create opportunities for meaningful character development and memorable experiences instead of simply determining who "wins."

Official Policy

Players are expected to prioritize believable stories over personal success.

Characters should experience victories, failures, setbacks, and consequences naturally.

Avoid creating situations solely to benefit yourself at the expense of quality roleplay.

Examples

βœ… Accepting setbacks when they create a better story.

βœ… Allowing another player's idea to develop naturally.

βœ… Letting consequences shape your character's journey.

❌ Ignoring realistic consequences simply to avoid losing.

❌ Treating every interaction as a competition.

❌ Sacrificing believable roleplay just to gain an advantage.

Important

Storytelling First

The best roleplay isn't measured by who succeedsβ€”it's measured by the stories everyone remembers.

Don't be afraid to let your character fail, struggle, or make mistakes. Those moments often create the most memorable roleplay.

When everyone focuses on building the story together, everyone has more fun.

🀝 RP is RP

Why this rule exists

Conflict between characters should never become conflict between players.

Roleplay often involves disagreements, arrests, rivalries, criminal activity, and other high-stakes situations. These scenarios should remain entirely in-character.

Official Policy

Players are expected to separate in-character interactions from out-of-character relationships.

Negative roleplay experiences involving your character should never be used as justification for hostility toward another player outside of roleplay.

Respect for fellow players should continue before, during, and after every roleplay scenario.

Examples

βœ… Remaining friendly with someone after a heated in-character scenario.

βœ… Congratulating another player on an enjoyable roleplay situation.

βœ… Separating your character's feelings from your own.

❌ Holding grudges against players because of their character's actions.

❌ Retaliating outside of roleplay over an in-character event.

❌ Refusing to roleplay with someone because your character previously lost to theirs.

Important

RP is RP

Your character and you are not the same person.

Characters may become enemies, rivals, or even betray one another, but those interactions should never affect how players treat each other outside of roleplay.

The best roleplay happens when everyone can separate in-character conflict from out-of-character friendships.

🎭 IC vs OOC

Why this rule exists

Separating in-character (IC) knowledge from out-of-character (OOC) knowledge preserves immersion and ensures fair roleplay for everyone.

Every character should learn information naturally through roleplay rather than from outside sources.

Official Policy

Your character may only act upon information they have legitimately learned through roleplay.

Information obtained through Discord, livestreams, friends, clips, or other outside sources may not influence your character's decisions unless it has also been discovered naturally in-character.

When in doubt, ask yourself: "Would my character realistically know this?"

Examples

βœ… Investigating information through roleplay.

βœ… Asking another character questions instead of assuming knowledge.

βœ… Learning information through witnesses, conversations, or evidence.

❌ Using Discord conversations as character knowledge.

❌ Acting on information seen in another player's livestream.

❌ Recognizing someone's alternate character without an in-character reason.

Important

IC vs OOC

Your character only knows what they have personally experienced, witnessed, or learned through roleplay.

Keeping in-character and out-of-character knowledge separate creates fairer, more immersive interactions for everyone and allows stories to develop naturally.

If you're unsure whether your character should know something, it's always better to discover it through roleplay.

🧠 Metagaming

Why this rule exists

Metagaming undermines fairness by allowing players to use information their character could not realistically know.

Every character should discover information naturally through roleplay rather than through outside knowledge.

Official Policy

Players may not use out-of-character information to gain an advantage during roleplay.

Information must always be obtained through legitimate in-character means before it may influence your character's actions.

If your character did not personally witness, hear, or learn the information through roleplay, they should not act on it.

Examples

βœ… Learning a suspect's name through conversation.

βœ… Gathering evidence during an investigation.

βœ… Asking other characters questions to uncover information.

❌ Using Discord messages to locate another player.

❌ Using Twitch chat or livestreams to gain information.

❌ Acting on information learned from a friend's conversation outside of roleplay.

Important

Metagaming

Your knowledge is not always your character's knowledge.

Even if you know something out of character, your character must still discover it naturally through roleplay.

Choosing not to use outside information creates fairer interactions and allows stories to develop as intended.

πŸ’ͺ Powergaming

Why this rule exists

Powergaming removes another player's ability to respond naturally and creates unrealistic or one-sided roleplay.

Every participant should have a reasonable opportunity to react within the limits of the scenario.

Official Policy

Players may not force actions, outcomes, injuries, or emotions upon another player without allowing them the opportunity to respond through roleplay.

Roleplay should remain believable and respect the capabilities and limitations of all characters involved.

Whenever possible, describe your character's actions rather than dictating another player's response.

Examples

βœ… Giving another player the opportunity to comply or resist.

βœ… Describing your own actions rather than dictating someone else's.

βœ… Allowing roleplay to determine the outcome of a situation.

❌ Forcing another player unconscious without allowing a response.

❌ Roleplaying impossible physical abilities or unrealistic actions.

❌ Declaring another player's injuries, emotions, or reactions without their input.

Important

Powergaming

Your character controls their own actionsβ€”not another player's.

Good roleplay gives everyone the opportunity to respond naturally and allows outcomes to develop through interaction rather than assumption.

If you're unsure, describe what your character attempts instead of declaring what happens.

πŸ† Win Mentality

Why this rule exists

Roleplay is about creating memorable storiesβ€”not collecting victories. Players who focus solely on "winning" often reduce the quality of roleplay for everyone involved.

The most memorable roleplay comes from meaningful character development, not always succeeding.

Official Policy

Players may not prioritize personal success over believable and enjoyable roleplay.

Characters should experience failure, setbacks, injuries, arrests, and consequences when appropriate.

Avoid unrealistic behavior intended solely to avoid negative outcomes or guarantee success.

Examples

βœ… Accepting an arrest when escape is no longer realistic.

βœ… Allowing consequences to become part of your character's story.

βœ… Letting your character fail if it creates better roleplay.

❌ Refusing every loss regardless of circumstances.

❌ Disconnecting or exploiting mechanics to avoid consequences.

❌ Making unrealistic decisions simply because they give your character an advantage.

Important

Win Mentality

Your character doesn't need to "win" for you to have a great roleplay experience.

Some of the best stories come from failures, setbacks, and unexpected consequences. Embrace those momentsβ€”they often create the most memorable roleplay.

Success should never come at the expense of believable storytelling.

🎯 Roleplayer Blurring

Why this rule exists

Players should never confuse in-character actions with out-of-character intent. Separating the player from the character helps maintain a positive and respectful community.

Every character has their own personality, motivations, and goals that may be very different from the player controlling them.

Official Policy

Do not assume another player's personal beliefs, opinions, or intentions based on the actions of their character.

Similarly, do not allow negative roleplay experiences to affect your interactions with that player outside of roleplay.

Respect the player behind every character, regardless of the role they choose to portray.

Examples

βœ… Recognizing that a criminal character does not reflect the player behind them.

βœ… Remaining respectful after an intense roleplay scenario.

βœ… Treating players the same outside of roleplay regardless of their character.

❌ Treating another player differently because of something their character did.

❌ Carrying in-character grudges into Discord or future unrelated roleplay.

❌ Assuming someone's real-life personality matches their character's behavior.

Important

Roleplayer Blurring

Your character is not you, and another player's character is not them.

Characters may lie, betray, arrest, rob, or even become enemies, but those actions should never affect how players treat one another outside of roleplay.

Separating players from their characters helps create a healthier community and allows everyone to enjoy a wider variety of roleplay.

πŸ•΅οΈ Witch Hunting

Why this rule exists

Repeatedly targeting players because of previous encounters or out-of-character knowledge creates repetitive, unfair, and unrealistic roleplay.

Roleplay should develop naturally through evolving storiesβ€”not personal fixation on another player or character.

Official Policy

Players may not intentionally seek out or repeatedly target another player without legitimate in-character justification.

Every scenario should develop naturally through roleplay rather than through personal fixation.

Investigations, rivalries, and ongoing conflicts are permitted when they are supported by believable in-character evidence and roleplay.

Examples

βœ… Investigating someone because your character has legitimate evidence.

βœ… Continuing an ongoing investigation supported by roleplay.

βœ… Pursuing a rival after new in-character developments.

❌ Following the same player every day without new in-character reasons.

❌ Targeting someone because you personally dislike them.

❌ Creating reasons to repeatedly involve the same player without believable roleplay justification.

Important

Witch Hunting

Roleplay should be driven by your character's experiencesβ€”not by personal feelings or out-of-character knowledge.

Long-term rivalries and investigations are encouraged when they develop naturally through roleplay, but repeatedly targeting the same player without new in-character justification is not.

Allow stories to evolve naturally and give every player the opportunity to create new roleplay experiences.

🎨 Creative Roleplay

Why this rule exists

Aeon Roleplay thrives when players create unique, engaging, and memorable stories together.

Creative roleplay strengthens the community by encouraging meaningful interactions instead of repetitive or predictable scenarios.

Official Policy

Players are encouraged to:

  • Develop believable character personalities.
  • Create unique roleplay opportunities.
  • Build stories collaboratively with others.
  • Accept unexpected outcomes that improve the overall narrative.

Creativity should always remain within the expectations of serious and realistic roleplay.

Examples

βœ… Creating long-term character goals.

βœ… Developing relationships with other characters.

βœ… Turning failures into future story opportunities.

βœ… Creating roleplay for others instead of only yourself.

❌ Repeating identical scenarios solely for personal gain.

❌ Ignoring opportunities that would create interesting roleplay.

❌ Choosing the easiest outcome instead of the most believable one.

Important

Creative Roleplay

Every player contributes to the quality of Aeon Roleplay.

Your goal should always be to create enjoyable, immersive, and memorable experiencesβ€”not simply to achieve the best possible outcome for yourself.

If you ever have to choose between "winning" and creating a better story, choose the better story.
